A Message from our President + CEO:
Habitat ReStore Closure

Dear supporters,

I hope this message finds you well. Over the past couple of years, San Diego Habitat for Humanity has achieved significant milestones, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. These accomplishments are thanks to the vision of our Board of Directors, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering support of our philanthropic partners and community, including ReStore donors and shoppers. Just this year, we completed 10 homes in Escondido, with families all moved in and enjoying their new homes.

This achievement underscores our commitment to providing safe and affordable housing for working San Diegans. Additionally, we have also seen a tremendous increase in interest and applications for affordable homeownership, highlighting the critical need in our community.

However, alongside these successes, I must also share some difficult news. After careful consideration, the board of directors has made the difficult decision to close both of our ReStore locations, effective October 31, 2024. This decision was not made lightly, and it stems from the profound impact of COVID-19 on retail and nonprofit sectors like ours, exacerbated by high building and finance costs in the current market.

Refocusing our efforts to build more homes for San Diegans in need.

By closing the ReStores, we can focus our efforts and resources on what we do best — empowering families by creating more affordable homeownership opportunities across San Diego County. Your continued support is key as we navigate this transition and strive to create lasting, positive change in our community.

Important closure dates:

  • Immediately: Rewards points no longer earned on store purchases.

    Purchases made after Saturday, July 6, 2024 no longer earn ReStore Rewards points. For existing ReStore Rewards members, earned rewards will remain active and redeemable in-store through Saturday, September 28, 2024.

  • July 27: Donation pickup service no longer offered.

    Donation pickups may be requested through Friday, July 19, 2024, and service will continue through Saturday, July 27, 2024. Spots are very limited — we recommend scheduling early for the widest availability. For a list of organizations that may be able to accept your items, please see below.

  • July 31: Donation drop-offs no longer accepted.

    Our area ReStore locations in Kearny Mesa and National City will continue to accept drop off donations through Tuesday, July 31, 2024. Donations are accepted Tuesday–Saturday, 9am–3pm.

  • September 28: ReStore Rewards points expire.

    Points and rewards earned as part of our ReStore Rewards program may be redeemed on all in-store purchases through Saturday, September 28, 2024.

  • October 31: Area ReStore locations permanently close.

    The last day to shop in the ReStore is Thursday, October 31, 2024, before the doors close to the public. We encourage you to shop early for the best selection of discounted inventory.

It is important to note that the closure of our ReStores will not impact the housing programs provided by San Diego Habitat for Humanity. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing affordable homeownership opportunities throughout San Diego County. Our affiliate will continue to operate, ensuring that our mission of empowering families through affordable housing programs remains our primary focus. 

Our area ReStore locations in Kearny Mesa and National City will continue to accept drop off donations through Tuesday, July 31, 2024. Donations are accepted Tuesday–Saturday, 9am–3pm.

Donation pickups may be requested through Friday, July 19, 2024, and service will continue through Saturday, July 27, 2024. Spots are very limited — we recommend scheduling early for the widest availability. 

We encourage you to reach out to these local organizations to determine if they are a good fit for your items:

Effective immediately, points will no longer be awarded for store purchases. However, earned rewards will remain active and redeemable in-store through Saturday, September 28, 2024. After this date, remaining points will be considered expired and forfeited and have no redemption value at San Diego ReStore or its affiliate, San Diego Habitat for Humanity.

Please note that earned rewards are now redeemable in conjunction with ongoing sales and offers. To inquire about your current points balance, please visit either of our area locations in Kearny Mesa and National City.
