With new federal guidelines announced today, we at San Diego Habitat for Humanity believe it is time to increase measures that ensure our employees, volunteers, and partners remain safe and healthy and to minimize the spread of COVID-19. We also need your help to continue to deliver our mission as best we can during this time.

I’m writing to update you on the decisions we have made today.

All ReStore Storefronts Closed

  • ReStores in Kearny Mesa, Escondido, National City and Carlsbad are closed to the public — for shoppers, donors, and volunteers — effective 6pm today, Monday, March 16 through March 22nd.
  • Our online store will still be operating — please visit us online. The ReStore can still be a resource to you for your home improvement needs — just visit our eBay store today to find what you need!
  • We are pausing donation drop-offs and pickups at this time. We will work to reschedule donations that are currently scheduled.
  • We will continue to evaluate these closures on a week-by-week basis, and will extend if necessary.

Habitat Administrative Offices Closed

  • Our administrative office in Kearny Mesa will be closed to the public, effective 5pm today, Monday, March 16.
  • We will remain closed through Sunday, March 22nd.
  • Most of our administrative staff will be available and actively working remotely, replying to phone calls, voicemails, and emails during this time. Any scheduled in-person meetings are being rescheduled or held via phone.
  • We will continue to evaluate this closure on a week-by-week basis, and will extend if necessary.

Habitat Construction Sites and Playhouse Workshop Closed to Volunteers

  • Our new construction sites — including Logan Heights and Encinitas — will be closed to Americorps Service Members, regular and new individual volunteers and volunteer groups, effective 5pm today, Monday, March 16.
  • The Playhouse Workshop will be closed to regular and new individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • We will remain closed through Sunday, March 22nd.
  • We will contact all currently scheduled volunteer groups to reschedule.
  • We will continue to evaluate this closure on a week-by-week basis, and will extend if necessary.

Here’s how you can help us.

  • Financial Support: As businesses throughout our community are impacted by closures, so are many Habitat homeowners. These families will certainly be concerned about continuing to make their mortgage payments. We are committed to working with each family during this uncertain time, but we need your financial support to sustain us in that. Please consider any financial support possible and click here to give a gift online or see other ways to give. When you give, you’ll help us do more to help them.
  • Support the ReStore: ReStore is a key part of how we build homes with local families and this downtime will certainly be a hit to that effort. We will urgently need your donated items when we return. If you’re planning a donation drop-off, please hold on to your items and drop them off when we open again. Click here to learn more about donating items.
  • Take Steps to Stay Healthy: We have a busy build season ahead of us and we’ll need your help to build homes!

We encourage you to stay connected with us:

  1. Visit our website for up-to-date information on the reinstitution of volunteer activities, and to sign up for our e-newsletters.
  2. Follow us on our social channels — Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

We remain ready to build hope in families who need the strong foundation of decent, affordable housing, and to support one another during this difficult time. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
