San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s receives $51,000 Wells Fargo Builds expand affordable homeownership

San Diego, CAThe Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded $4.6 million to Habitat for Humanity International to support the construction, renovation, and repair of affordable homes for more than 200 families in 131 communities nationwide. As part of this national effort, San Diego Habitat for Humanity has received a $51,000 grant through the 2025 Wells Fargo Builds program to expand access to safe, stable, and affordable homeownership opportunities in San Diego County.

The grant is helping San Diego Habitat advance its work to provide housing stability for local families—supporting projects ranging from new home construction to critical repairs for veterans, seniors, and low-income homeowners. As part of this investment, Wells Fargo volunteers recently joined San Diego Habitat during Veterans Build 2025 to complete essential health, safety, and accessibility repairs for a veteran family living in the Promise Zone area of San Diego. These improvements will help the family continue living independently and with dignity.

“Wells Fargo’s generous support and volunteerism are helping us meet some of the most urgent housing needs in our region,” said Kwofi Reed, San Diego Habitat for Humanity President and CEO. “By partnering with us during Veterans Build, their team helped a local veteran family remain safely in their home—one of many families who will benefit from this grant. Together, we’re expanding affordable housing opportunities and strengthening communities across San Diego County.”

Wells Fargo’s investment reflects its long-standing commitment to strengthening communities and supporting veteran households. In California, at least 1 in 5 households spends over half of their income on housing—a burden that falls especially hard on military families, seniors, and low-income homeowners. As housing costs continue to rise across the region, the Wells Fargo Builds grant enhances San Diego Habitat’s ability to deliver affordable repair services and preserve housing stability for families who need it most.
