San Diego Habitat for Humanity Dedicates Six New Homes in National City
Celebrating empowerment and a bright future for local families in need of improved housing

WHAT:  San Diego Habitat for Humanity is pleased to be dedicating six houses in National City that were built in partnership with local families in need of improved housing and are being sold to them at a price they can afford.

Guests at this housewarming event will wish the new homeowner families well as they embark on their new lives filled with renewed strength, stability, and independence.

The 1,100 to 1,400 square foot, 3 bedroom/2.5 bath townhomes feature attached 1-car garages, drought-tolerant landscaping, and energy efficient appliances and plumbing fixtures.

The houses were intended to be mostly built by Habitat’s army of approximately 5,000 annual volunteers working alongside the new homeowners, who commit to build and buy their own homes as part of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity.  However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a dedicated group of “regular” volunteers and Habitat superintendents jumped in and got the job done in good health, safely, and on time.

These six new homes were built in partnership with the City of National City, which has been a steadfast partner to Habitat over the years.  This community marks 14 new affordable Habitat homes built in the city since 2003.

The homes were offered for sale at an affordable price through Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program. They are sold at no more than 30% of a qualified buyer’s household income. Habitat homebuyers are selected on the basis of housing need, a willingness to partner with Habitat to build their own home or those of their neighbors, and ability to repay an affordable mortgage loan.

While the homes in National City are sold, parties interested in Habitat’s affordable homeownership program can visit Habitat’s website – https://go.sandiegohabitat.org/buyahome – to add their name to a list of people that will be notified when more homes are available for sale.

Habitat builds throughout San Diego County.

WHY: No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life.  We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day.  We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures.  Habitat believes in a community – and a world – where everyone has a decent place to live.
