June is National Homeownership month, and we’re shining a light on the benefits homeownership brings to families. At San Diego Habitat, we have been helping families build and buy their own homes for over 30 years — we know that homeowners have better health outcomes, are more involved in their community, and that their children do better in school. All of this is because of the peace of mind and independence that a safe, stable home brings.
We also know that rising housing costs and not enough availability makes it challenging for working families to purchase their own home. But you can help turn the tide! At this very moment, our lawmakers at the local, state, and federal levels are making decisions about housing funding, streamlining of housing development processes, and land use, among other affordable housing issues. This is a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in helping more San Diegans achieve what former President Barack Obama called “the fundamental piece of the American Dream.”
