In late 2018, San Diego Habitat partnered with impact investing firm Mission Driven Finance to launch the Homebuilding Investment Fund. This provided a mechanism to connect socially conscious investors with a meaningful and innovative way to address the region’s housing crisis. We are thrilled to announce that the fund has raised just over $2 million with a combination of investments and grants. This support will enable us to build and sell 37 homes throughout San Diego County.

The Homebuilding Investment Fund acts like a line of credit for San Diego Habitat, allowing us to build more homes in a shorter time. 16 homes have been built and sold in San Diego and El Cajon, 3 will be sold in San Diego this December, and work continues on 18 homes throughout National City, Encinitas, and Escondido.

In this season of gratitude, we are grateful for the partnership of Mission Driven Finance and the commitment of the investors who stepped in to support Habitat’s work in a new way. Investors in this fund are a mix of direct private investors, faith communities, foundations, and individuals with donor advised funds at the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego and The San Diego Foundation.
