We recently broke ground at our newest affordable housing community in Encinitas, which will be the site of two new Habitat homes. We were joined by Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear and the entire City Council, City Manager Karen Brust, and Francine Busby, District Director for Congressman Mike Levin.

The houses will be built mostly by Habitat’s army of about 5,000 annual volunteers working alongside the future homeowners, who commit to build and buy their own homes, as part of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

The 1,400 square foot (3 bedroom) and 1,700 square foot (4 bedroom) single-family homes will feature attached garages, covered porches, drought-tolerant landscaping, and energy efficient appliances and plumbing fixtures.

They are being built in partnership with the City of Encinitas, who offered a ground lease on the land to Habitat to ensure current and long-term affordability of the homes. We are also honored to also have the support of longtime sponsor Guild Mortgage, who has donated $250,000 to build one of the homes in this community.

President Terry Schmidt, President of Guild Mortgage, joined us and presented a sponsorship check. It was an exciting moment! Completion of both homes is expected by the spring of 2021.
