For Cody and Lacey, homeownership isn’t just about having more space—it’s about stepping into a future they’ve been praying for. As newlyweds, they’ve spent their first year of marriage in a small one-bedroom ADU built over a garage, grateful for the generosity of their landlords but aware that they’ve outgrown the space. With boxes that still have no place to go, limited privacy, and unpredictable neighborhood conditions, the couple began to ask, “What’s next?” Habitat for Humanity helped answer that question—with a resounding sense of hope.

Both Cody and Lacey work in fields they love. Cody has served at a local Carlsbad church for nearly a decade, using his technical skills in production and audio/visual to help others grow in their faith. Lacey, a lifelong dancer, teaches at the studio where she grew up. She now leads its performance company, empowering young dancers to find joy and confidence through non-competitive, creative expression.

Their passion for their work runs deep, but neither career is known for high pay. Still, they felt called to stay close to their church, their students, and their family. When a Habitat opportunity came up in their area, they applied in faith. During the waiting period, they often visited the neighborhood, praying for guidance and peace with whatever outcome came. When they were selected, they were speechless—overwhelmed with gratitude, disbelief, and happy tears. Now, they’re looking forward to starting the next chapter in a home they can call their own. The couple dreams of decorating together and creating a warm, welcoming space for hosting friends and family. Most of all, they’re excited to grow their family—something that felt impossible in their current home.

Cody and Lacey’s story is grounded in faith, community, and purpose. Their relationship has been shaped by deep-rooted friendships, shared values, and the belief that they’re meant to live lives of service. It was through Lacey’s friendship with Cody’s sister—who also became her co-worker and sister-in-law—that the two first met. Their circle of family and friends has supported them through financial hardships and major life transitions, helping them stay grounded and open to what’s possible.

For Lacey, whose family relocated from Washington to California during a time of medical and financial difficulty, and for Cody, whose parents were also Habitat homeowners, this milestone is deeply meaningful. It represents stability,
legacy, and the ability to continue pursuing careers they believe in—without sacrificing security.

Their home will be more than a place to live—it will be a space to rest, to host, to grow, and to build the life they’ve envisioned. As they put it, they’re laying the foundation for the life they’ve prayed for.
