San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s third annual Taste of Home celebrates local families and community impact
Encinitas, CA — On June 29, San Diego Habitat for Humanity welcomed over 130 supporters to Leichtag Commons in Encinitas for the Third Annual Taste of Home—an inspiring evening of community, connection, and purpose. The event raised essential funds to support the construction and preservation of affordable homes across San Diego County.
Taste of Home highlighted the life-changing impact of having a safe, affordable place to call home—a foundation that fosters opportunity, stability, and brighter futures. By honoring 14 future Habitat families who will move into their homes in 2025, the evening served as a moving reminder of the lasting impact San Diego Habitat continues to make across the region.
Special guest Assemblymember Tasha Boerner joined the event to share her support for San Diego Habitat’s commitment to creating stronger, more equitable neighborhoods. In further recognition of Habitat’s leadership, the organization received a Certificate of Recognition from the Office of State Senator Catherine Blakespear, presented by District Director Francine Busby.
To foster a deeper connection to the mission, guests participated in hands-on activities including writing welcome cards to incoming homeowners and signing a wooden beam that will be installed in Habitat’s upcoming Escondido development. These interactive moments offered guests a tangible way to leave their mark on the homes they help make possible.
“Taste of Home is more than a fundraiser—it’s a reminder that every family deserves the opportunity to build a better future,” said Kwofi Reed, President and CEO of San Diego Habitat for Humanity. “We are grateful to the families who shared their stories and to the partners, donors, and volunteers who make this work possible.”
As the sun set, attendees enjoyed tastings from local culinary vendors and were moved by stories from Habitat families like Leticia O., a proud homeowner and Habitat board member, “Homeownership has given me the peace of knowing my son is growing up in a safe, stable place surrounded by love. As a single parent, that stability means everything. Because of San Diego Habitat, I can be present for him, create a home filled with family and tradition, and give him opportunities I never had. This is what a real taste of home feels like.”
Proceeds from Taste of Home directly support Habitat’s mission to build and preserve affordable housing, empowering more families to achieve the strength, self-reliance, and sense of belonging that homeownership brings.
