Rock Street Home | SDSU College Area

About the community:

The College Area Community developed slowly during the early 1930s and into the post-war era. It is a sleepy and diverse suburban neighborhood located in the central part of the City of San Diego, along the southern rim of Mission Valley and approximately 8 miles northeast of downtown. It is bordered on the west by Kensington and Talmadge and on the east by the city of La Mesa. It is home to San Diego State University.

El Cajon Boulevard is the historic commercial and bustling shopping district and was once the primary transportation route from San Diego to El Cajon and Arizona, before the construction of Interstate 8.

Habitat was approached by the City of San Diego with the hopes of building a home on this small lot, once an SDG&E easement. With some creativity, we were able to construct a lovely two-story home that provides living space for a family of five.

Community specs:

  • 1 single-family home
  • 3 bedrooms/2 baths

  • 1,369 s.f.
  • 2-car garage
  • private yard

  • drought-tolerant landscaping
  • sustainable and recycled building materials

  • low-flow plumbing fixtures
  • energy-efficient Whirlpool appliances
