San Diego Habitat for Humanity Hosts 15th Annual Women Build
Every woman has the power to build the world, starting right here in our community.

ESCONDIDO, CA – Women volunteers from across San Diego County will raise their hammers on a Habitat for Humanity construction site in Escondido on May 5th during San Diego Habitat’s 15th Annual Women Build event, generously sponsored by Cox, Harrah’s Resort Southern California, City National Bank, C.W. Driver, and The Original Pink Box. Women Build empowers women to create stronger, safer neighborhoods by building affordable homeownership opportunities in our community.

A safe, healthy, affordable home is the foundation for the strength, stability, and independence hardworking families need to build better futures. Habitat homeowners invest 250-500 hours of “sweat equity,” working alongside our staff and volunteers to help build their own homes. When construction is complete, they make affordable mortgage payments that are recycled back into the Habitat homeownership program to build more homes for more families.

Women can create significant change in their neighborhoods by volunteering and bringing attention to the fact that homeownership is a pathway to better financial futures, better education, better health, and a more cared-for, connected community.

During the 2023 event, Women Builders will contribute their time, talent, and treasure in support of the building of 10 new homes on El Norte Parkway in Escondido. Another group will help to repair the exterior of a home in Chula Vista as part of Habitat’s Home Preservation Program – installing hardscape, repairing dilapidated fencing, and putting a fresh coat of paint on the house.

In addition to spending at least one day on a job site, participants are asked to raise a minimum of $400 to support the creation of affordable homeownership opportunities.

Since 2008, Women Build volunteers have built or repaired 24 houses in San Diego County and raised $1.2 million in support of affordable homeownership.
