San Diego Habitat for Humanity Collaborates With PNC Bank for 14th Annual Veterans Build
Program sponsored in part by PNC Bank provides safer home environments for veterans
San Diego, CA — San Diego Habitat for Humanity will kick off its four-day Veterans Build event, sponsored in part by PNC Bank, starting Wednesday, November 1, 2023. The four-day build will bring together diverse groups and individuals from across San Diego in support of Habitat’s programs serving local veterans in need of improved housing.
In its 14th year, Veterans Build provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to address the needs of the heroes who served our country by creating healthier, safer home environments through home repairs and improvements.
This year’s participants, including 20 employees from PNC Bank, will perform repairs in Oak Park at the home of a 92-year-old Korean War veteran.
“We are proud to present this annual event together with longstanding partner, PNC Bank, as they have demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting our veterans,” said Kwofi Reed, president & CEO, San Diego Habitat for Humanity.
For PNC Bank, supporting the event underscores its local approach to doing business and supporting the communities in which it operates. This past year, PNC Bank employees have completed nearly 250 volunteer hours across playhouse builds, shifts at the ReStore, and veteran repair projects, making a strong impact in the communities we serve.
“PNC Bank is committed to the communities in which we work and live and proud to support organizations working to transform the lives of San Diegans,” said Alan Prohaska, PNC regional president for San Diego. “Through Habitat’s Veterans Build, we’re serving the heroes who served our nation by helping to provide solutions to their housing challenges. We can’t wait to volunteer again.”
San Diego County is home to more than 240,000 veterans, one of the highest concentrations in the country. As part of Habitat for Humanity International’s Veterans Build initiative, San Diego Habitat focuses on engaging veterans, military families, and neighbors in meaningful service opportunities, hosting special events that raise awareness of veteran housing needs, and offering housing solutions through its VetRepair program.
Home repair services offered through Habitat’s VetRepair program aim to ensure the well-being and quality of life for veterans, with the goal of preserving homeownership, supporting mental and physical wellness, and honoring their service.
In addition to volunteering their time, all Veterans Build participants have committed to raising or donating funds that directly support veteran services and the construction and preservation of homes throughout San Diego County.
