MEDIA ADVISORY

Habitat for Humanity and Encore Capital Group Build Homes for Local Families
Major donation and volunteer effort makes El Cajon homes possible

WHAT: San Diego Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce its continued partnership with Encore Capital Group, an international specialty finance company that provides debt recovery solutions for consumers and property owners across a broad range of assets. Through its subsidiaries around the globe, Encore purchases portfolios of consumer receivables from major banks, credit unions, and utility providers.

Now in its seventh year, the 2019 partnership includes a donation of $30,000 and the dedication of 50 employee volunteers who will help build homes and better life stories for local hardworking families in need of improved housing.  During the course of the partnership, a total of 460 Encore Capital employees have donated their time on Habitat construction sites, and the company has donated a total of $231,000 to help fund the construction of Habitat homes.

This effort is part of Encore Capital Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program, which focuses on economic empowerment and strives to improve communities through better education, job training and basic support services.  The event also marks the seventh annual Global Volunteer Day where 500 employees in 16 locations around the world, including the company’s U.S., India, and Costa Rica locations will volunteer personal time to give back to their communities.

People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat to build or improve a place they can call home.  Habitat homeowners help build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.  With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

On Saturday, April 13th, Encore Capital volunteers will work on the Habitat build site in El Cajon that will eventually have five new, affordable homes for purchase by local families.  Two years ago, the Encore Capital team was the very first volunteer group on this site, deconstructing the structures that existed there and building the property fence.  Last year, they broke ground on the site, installing the exterior property fencing.  Four homes are now complete, and Encore Capital will be framing the roof of the fifth and final home in this affordable housing community.  They will also be installing exterior insulation, building internal fencing, and constructing playhouses to present to local families.
