New Construction

Are you ready to don a hardhat and swing a hammer?

Give back to our community in a meaningful way while learning new skills — no construction experience or gear required!

Participants work in collaborative groups led by an experienced construction leader to complete building tasks and accomplish something meaningful — sometimes alongside a future Habitat homeowner.

A standard build day includes up to 15 volunteers from your team. Options for larger groups are available with additional planning and resources.

We do ask for a financial sponsorship for an exclusive New Construction build day for your group.  This helps cover the cost of materials and staff supervision. Contact us through the form below to begin a conversation regarding partnership specifics that can be crafted to your needs. If your group does not require an exclusive day and is open to building alongside individual volunteers and/or other groups, we do not require a financial sponsorship.

Yes. The minimum age to volunteer on a construction site is 16. Volunteers under 18 must bring a Minor Permission Form signed by a parent/guardian.

Playhouses

Let your creativity run wild with a playhouse build.

Let us bring the build to you! Playhouse recipient families choose a theme based on their children’s interests, and we let your creativity run from there — we provide all the tools, training, and materials necessary.

When you take part in a playhouse build, you support the construction of real Habitat homes in San Diego County.

Playhouse builds can be hosted at your church, another location of your choosing, or San Diego Habitat’s administrative office in Kearny Mesa. All you need is a large flat surface area such as a parking lot, lawn, or ballroom.

Each playhouse takes 3-4 hours to build and can accommodate 8-10 volunteers. Multiple playhouses can be built simultaneously or in shifts to engage more volunteers.

All tools, materials, and training will be provided.

Playhouse build sponsorship starts at $1,500 per playhouse and increases based on how many total playhouses are built by your team. (Our team is happy to share effective fundraising ideas your team can use if sponsorship is a barrier to participation.)

Yes. Volunteers under 18 must bring a Minor Permission Form signed by a parent/guardian, and we require that anyone under the age of 16 have an adult chaperone to volunteer with them. If you plan to have minors in your volunteer group, please let us know in advance.

Home Repair + Preservation

Help local families with needed health and safety home repairs and improvements.

In addition to building new homes, San Diego Habitat partners with homeowners in need of repairs through our Home Preservation and VetRepair programs. Improvements include weatherization, sustainable landscaping, painting, and more.

Opportunities are limited and may vary in scope.

Due to the smaller size of our home repair projects, we can typically accommodate groups of up to 12 volunteers. However, group size may vary by project and can be as few as 5 volunteers.

We do ask for a financial sponsorship to work on a home repair project. This helps cover the cost of materials and staff supervision. ReStore

Help provide affordable goods to the community.

Give your time and talents to the San Diego Habitat ReStore, our discount home improvement retail center. Funds raised from the ReStores support construction and repair of Habitat homes in San Diego County.

With two area locations and half-day volunteer shifts, there are many options to help sustain this vital part of our operation.

Volunteer group capacity varies depending on ReStore location, but we can typically accommodate groups of up to 10 volunteers per day.

While there is no required financial sponsorship to volunteer as a group at one of our ReStores, we ask that participating groups donate what they are able to help financially support the ongoing construction of new Habitat homes in San Diego County.

Yes. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to volunteer at the ReStore. Volunteers under 18 must bring a Minor Permission Form signed by a parent/guardian.
