Adventure with us this September!

San Diego Habitat is thrilled to be wrapping up our construction site in National City and launching construction on our newest site on East El Norte Parkway in Escondido. Because of some significant permitting delays and tight funding deadlines, this site will almost entirely be built using skilled labor instead of our usual volunteers.

We need the help of the entire community fundraising together to make that possible. Adventure Race 2022 will help us raise much needed funds to keep this project on track and make affordable homeownership possible for ten Habitat homeowners!

San Diego Habitat invites you to participate in this year’s construction-themed Adventure Race! Gather your team of up to five and race from our offices in Kearny Mesa north to Escondido in a four-hour race that will conclude with a community barbecue lunch. This year’s race will be adding in some of our most loved construction games including The Sledge Hammer Hold and The Nail Driver Challenge.

A $50 registration fee secures each team members spot and your team will have the opportunity to continue to fundraise for additional prizes. These fundraising efforts will support our ongoing work of providing affordable homeownership opportunities for more San Diegans. The top team will win a three-day, two-night stay at Harrah’s Resort Southern California including a $300 meal + $300 spa credit for each team member!

While our race is great for all ages, there will be several challenges that require the participant to be 18 or older.

Your questions about Adventure Race, answered.

Fun-seekers of ages and abilities are invited to join, but there will be a few challenges that can only be completed by an adult 18 or older.

Yes! Teams are comprised of up to five participants. Once registered, you can recruit team members up until race day. If you need to change out a team member along the way, we can help. We are offering a discount code of half off up until July 31, so if it’s after that date, your new team members will pay the full amount of $50.

Your $50 registration fee covers your race expenses and lunch. You can opt to fundraise by sharing about the race with your friends and family — it’s a simple process through our event page. All funds raised will directly help with our new build site in Escondido off of El Norte Parkway. We also have fun incentives for fundraising!

El Norte Parkway, our ten-home build site in Escondido, has had significant permitting delays and tight funding deadlines. Because of this, the site will almost entirely be built using skilled labor instead of our usual volunteers. We need the help of our entire community fundraising together to make that possible. Your support is making a lasting difference in the lives of local families and throughout our community.

We encourage you to meet at our offices in Kearny Mesa and drive together in one vehicle. Part of the race is solving clues on the go, and it’s advantageous for you to be in the same car as you are adventuring. If you need a ride back to the office from Escondido when the race is completed, we will arrange a carpool.

We will meet up at our offices in Kearny Mesa at 8:30am and will kick off our race with a light breakfast. We will share instructions and then teams will be sent out to adventure for three hours. Teams will receive the challenge list in full (there will be more challenges than you will be able to complete), and you will choose your own path to make your way to a designated lunch spot in Escondido.

Challenges are designed to generate unforgettable experiences and can be completed in any order. Here are a couple of examples from last year:

  • Load money into any vending machine with a note that says, “Any item of your choice on us! Love, San Diego Habitat For Humanity.” and snap a picture.
  • Research shows that consuming raw garlic can boost your immune system. Take a video of all team members each chewing a separate raw clove of garlic for at least 10 full seconds.

Several days before the race, you will get an email with instructions to download the Bonfyre app, which is how you’ll interact with our Race HQ, report your completed progress for each challenge, chat and banter with other teams, and check overall progress!

Our entire race including our barbecue lunch will be held outside. We encourage you to team up with those who are taking the same precautions that you are. If you are feeling unwell, show symptoms associated with COVID-19, including but not limited to cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, or fever, or if you have been exposed to someone with symptoms in the last 14 days, please stay home. You can find more on our COVID protocols here.
