MEDIA RELEASE

San Diego Habitat for Humanity in Search of Future Homeowners in Encinitas
Partner with Habitat and make the dream of homeownership a reality.

SAN DIEGO, CA Many hardworking families in San Diego County are living paycheck to paycheck in substandard and overcrowded housing. If you or someone you care about has always dreamed of becoming a homeowner but thought it was impossible, please join San Diego Habitat for Humanity for an informative virtual homeownership orientation.

San Diego Habitat for Humanity is currently building two affordable homes in Encinitas — located on Leucadia Boulevard – that will be offered for purchase by qualified buyers. Applicants who are selected will be invited to partner with Habitat to help build and buy their own home, which will be sold to them at an affordable price not greater than 30% of the buyer’s household income.

The homes being offered for sale are both single family homes — one is a single story 3-bedroom, and one is a two-story 4-bedroom. Both have two baths and attached garages.

Habitat will be hosting a virtual homeownership orientation in the coming weeks where interested parties can learn about the organization, the program requirements, and how to apply.

People can submit their contact information at bit.ly/buymyhabitathome to receive information about how to register for the virtual orientation, which will be provided on-demand so that it can be watched at the viewer’s convenience during the allotted timeframe. Orientation details will be distributed to those on the interest list in early February.

To qualify for a Habitat home, you must:

  • have a demonstrated need for improved housing
  • be willing to partner with Habitat to build your own home
  • be able to pay an affordable mortgage
  • currently reside in San Diego County

San Diego Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that everyone in our region should have a safe, healthy home they can afford. As we stay at home to stop the spread of COVID-19, we know that many are struggling without access to this basic human need. There is more need for affordable housing in San Diego than ever before, and Habitat will continue to provide housing solutions to those in need of a stable place to call home.
