Every Voice

Every Voice
Together, our voices can effect major change, and we consistently use our voices to advocate for solutions to affordable housing issues facing San Diegans. In January, we joined 25 other California Habitat affiliates on a two-day lobbying trip to Sacramento. We thanked our legislators for their support of the recently passed housing package, and urged them to continue passing legislation that helps Californians combat the affordable housing crisis.

Neighborhood Revitalization and Critical Hope Repair
In 2017, through our Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) program, we introduced a Critical Home Repair initiative. The focus of this initiative is on accessibility improvements, mobility modifications, weatherization enhancements, and critical home repairs that are crucial to help families to remain in their own homes and for seniors to age in place. One of our success stories is with homeowners Marie and Ozell.

Everyone Can Make a Difference

Everyone Can Make a Difference
Tricia and her four children - Blake, Caiden, Logan (9 year-old triplets!), and Jordyn (5) recently came by our office to tour the site and drop off a generous donation in person. The Miller family, along with the help of friends and neighbors, collected cans and bottles throughout the year to raise money for charity. They've donated to various organizations in the past, and this year they decided to donate to San Diego Habitat!

Pearl Harbor Veteran Project

Pearl Harbor Veteran Project
We recently had the honor of performing some much-needed repairs to the home of Ray Chavez, who, at 105 years young, is the oldest living Pearl Harbor veteran.  His daughter, Kathleen, is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  She was the Navy's first female jet mechanic, working on the F-14 Tomcats beginning in 1974.  She owns the home her father lives in.

Playhouses Available

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with corporate sponsors to build and gift playhouses to children in San Diego County.  We give playhouses to low-income families, military families, veteran families, and to nonprofits that serve children.
