A Message Regarding COVID-19

Dear Habitat Supporter,

The leadership at San Diego Habitat for Humanity is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic.  The continued health and safety of our staff and volunteers is of the utmost concern to us, and has guided us as we thoughtfully consider our operational response to this fluid situation.

As of today, March 13, 2020, we will be taking the following measures in order to minimize potential community exposure to the coronavirus:

EVENT POSTPONEMENTS

Out of an abundance of caution, we will be postponing the following events until further notice.

National City Groundbreaking (March 25)
Volunteer Appreciation Event (March 28)

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY

Construction Volunteers
We are canceling all volunteer groups scheduled for next week (3/16 – 3/21).  We will continue work on the site with AmeriCorps construction staff and skilled regular volunteers if they so choose. (We strongly suggest that you check the CDC website and follow all directives relative to your health and the health of others.) Regulars must have a current waiver on file to volunteer.

Future volunteer activity will be evaluated and announced next week.

ReStore Volunteers are welcome to volunteer as you are comfortable.  Please notify Sophia Micheletti if you make the decision not to join us.

Office Volunteers are welcome to volunteer as you are comfortable.  Please notify Sophia Micheletti if you make the decision not to join us.

Playhouse Volunteers
Regulars are welcome to join us, with the same recommendations as on construction sites (see above).

ReSTORES

All four ReStore locations will remain open at this time.  Additional efforts and resources are being dedicated to heightening our cleaning standards in high traffic customer areas, such as restrooms and checkouts.  All donated items will be sanitized before being placed in the stores for sale, and merchandise surfaces will be cleaned at regular intervals during store hours.  Staff has been instructed to wash hands frequently, and to properly cover sneezes and coughs. We are also practicing social distancing (maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet of one another).  Donation pickups will continue for the time being.

STAFF/COMMUNITY SAFETY

The Habitat administrative offices will remain open and operational.

Our staff has been asked to stay home when ill, and reconsider attending large gatherings of people. Additionally, we are offering expanded remote working options and asking staff members to engage in healthy preventative measures such as increased hand-washing and social distancing.

If you have an appointment or plans to visit us, please exercise an abundance of caution.  If you are even slightly ill or worried about being in contact with someone who is, we’ll miss you, but please reschedule your appointment or visit with us for another time in the future.

Thank you for your continued support of San Diego Habitat for Humanity.  In these uncertain times, one thing remains consistent – the need for safe, stable, affordable housing options for San Diegans.  We will continue to do our best to deliver on our mission as we navigate the coming months. Updates will be provided as appropriate, but please feel free to contact our offices at 619-283-4663 should you have specific questions.

This virus most significantly affects those in our community who are the most vulnerable.  Please join us in keeping them, our government leaders, and medical professionals in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Lori Holt Pfeiler
President/CEO
