Habitat takes a holistic approach to revitalizing neighborhoods, encouraging existing residents to be active participants in the renewal of their own community. San Diego County has a homeownership rate of only 53 percent, trailing the national average of 65 percent, according to the most recent U.S. census. Because of the current pandemic and economic volatility, this number is at-risk of decreasing even further.

Homeowners may experience difficulties completing the necessary repairs to maintain their homes, which can lead to health and safety challenges at best — loss of the home at worst.
