MEDIA ADVISORY

San Diego Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground on its Newest Community in Encinitas

Two new homes will soon be available for purchase by families in need of improved housing

WHAT: San Diego Habitat for Humanity is pleased to be breaking ground at its newest affordable housing community in Encinitas.

The houses will be built mostly by Habitat’s army of about 5,000 annual volunteers working alongside the future homeowners, who commit to build and buy their own homes, as part of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity. The 1,400 square foot (3 bedroom) and 1,700 square foot (4 bedroom) single-family homes will feature attached garages, covered porches, drought-tolerant landscaping, and energy efficient appliances and plumbing fixtures.

The two new homes are being built in partnership with the City of Encinitas, who offered a ground lease on the land to Habitat to ensure current and long-term affordability of the homes. This is Habitat’s first-ever partnership with the City of Encinitas.

San Diego Habitat is honored to also have the support of longtime sponsor Guild Mortgage, who has donated $250,000 to build one of the homes in this community.

The homes will be offered for sale at an affordable price through Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership selection process – the first step of which is attendance at a homeownership orientation. The date is yet to be announced, but interested parties can visit Habitat’s website — www.sandiegohabitat.org — to add their name to a list of people that will be notified when that meeting is scheduled.

Completion of both homes is expected by the spring of 2021.
